Lots going on in the world and on the home front and my next performance of Flight Lessons: a folk opera, April 17 at Rhythmix, is still top of mind! The show entails seven musicians and 20 songs with video projection, bird song and narrative so there’s a lot of ducks to get in a row! That job is easier with the excellent, all-star ensemble who is helping me bring the show to life: Kwame Copeland, Tania Johnson, Matt Langlois, Sean Lightholder, Mick Shaffer and Liz Stuart. The opening for the art show I curated for Rhythmix ‘Flight Patterns’ was a great success and great fun. The Alameda Post was on the scene and covered the event here:

Amid everything, I ventured over to Ben Bernstein's studio to record one of the songs from the show, the title track, ‘Flight Lessons,' which has been fun. Kwame, Tania and Liz came by the studio to lay down harmony vocals and I almost started crying! Hearing them sing together and then listening to Tania do her piano part just warmed my heart. Music! It is truly good for the soul.
So is poetry. I was a little tickled to see Haiku Reviews take on 'I Was Yours.' It's always interesting how people will receive one's work:

Between the sessions and playing another set at the Golden Gate Bandshell on Wednesday, and then singing a brand new Bay Station number, ‘Mystery Ride,’ at the Irish American Writer's Salon at The California Historical Radio Society on Thursday, my soul is feeling fed. I am grateful…and feeling fortified for Saturday's No King's March.
