19 Voices in Solidarity
concerts for a cause
Because so many of American's constitutional rights have been challenged in recent years, I’ve been organizing concerts featuring 19, women-lend, musical acts to help raise funds for peace and justice organizations. In 2022, I met with Aireene Espiritu to brainstorm about what we musicians could do in the current climate. We came up with the concept — the number 19 references the 19th Amendment which famously gave women the right — and collaborated to produce 19 Voices for Choice. Including that show, there have been five such 19 Voices shows: for Choice, another for Kamala, and three and counting in Solidarity. Featuring a rotating, all-star bill of Bay Area-based musical artists, shows have taken place at the Ivy Room in Albany, Casement’s in San Francisco, HopMonk Sebastobol and The Lost Church Santa Rosa, raising thousands of dollars for NNAF, the Harris campaign, ACLU and Peace and Justice Center of Sonoma and our spirits.
