Flight Lessons
A Folk Opera by Deborah Crooks
Saturday, Feb. 8th | 7pm
Inspired by true events on Oakland’s Fruitvale Bridge, Flight Lessons tells the story of Peregrine Falcons and humans coexisting at the edge of wild and urban life. The narrative follows an urban wildlife biologist as she monitors a breeding pair of falcons nesting on the bridge. When one bird is tragically shot, the lives of the falcons and the human community around them become deeply intertwined.
Exploring themes of home, migration, adaptation, and resilience, Flight Lessons examines the connections between life, loss, and the natural world. It asks: How do we learn to value nature in an urban environment? And how do we recover and move forward after profound loss?

Featuring Mick Shaffer, Tania Johnson, Liz Stuart, Deborah Crooks, Peter Whitehead and Kwame Copeland
