It's been nearly eight years since I made Beauty Everywhere but the title track still describes how I'm moving through the world. When I wrote that song, I was in need of an extra dose of hope and I started making lists of the beautiful things I’d see each day — sidewalk chalk art, an ocean view — to remind me of the wonder of simply being. Many of its lyrics are paraphrased from what my dad showed me to do as a child: to notice “all the world’s a miracle/ all the flowers coming up in bloom / all this life keeps going on / despite the strife and the gloom.” Continuing to search out beauty, whether pedestrian or show-stopping, is one of the practices that's been sustaining me these days, and no doubt I'll be singing that song at some of my upcoming gigs. I've a variety pack of shows on the calendar, including more "Flight Lessons" in Santa Rosa and a Bay Station gig in Alaska! Come on out and/or spread the word.
Wishing you hope and beauty,
Deborah
