About Track 7: "My New Sweet"

Track 7 “My New Sweet” was written after inadvertently bitter muffins were served at a gathering of wise women ...and enjoyed. Perhaps more so than if they'd been sweetened. Talk ensued about how preferences change over time... I went home and wrote this:
"I’m done with the sweet, the sugar on my teeth, the ache of too much too soon/syrupy come-ons, oh come on, I’m ready for something new in my spoon/complexity not simplicity, a whole new depth a different degree
/yeah bitter, yes bitter is my new sweet".... While I still think there’s a band name in "bitter muffins", "my new sweet", as song title had more legs and spoke to the savory, contradictory and multilayered aspects of life that can please and satisfy, and how preferences for such change, evolve and surprise over time, be they for pastries or people!

Between now and its official release day, I’ll be sharing a bit of the inspiration and backstory for each song on The Department of the West (December 6, 2019), and a preview of the recording. Pre-order the record -http://www.deborahcrooks.com/the_department_of_the_west/ - and I’ll send you the featured song of the week of your order.
