Patsy Cline pre-show

We're playing a short set of country classics and our twangiest originals as the pre-show entertainment for a handful of dates of the acclaimed Always...Patsy Cline show now playing at Altarena Playhouse here in Alameda. Most shows are sold out but they're adding more dates. If you've tickets, look for us Friday May 30, Sunday June 8, Thursday 12 & Friday 20.

"Bread & Roses is dedicated to uplifting the human spirit by providing free, live, quality shows to people who live in institutions or are otherwise isolated from society."

We've been doing occasional shows for Bread & Roses over the past several years and they're always gratifying. These gigs don't earn us a dime and no one remembers our full names but they're golden. Periodically we play for B&R at Creativity Explored,

an art school for adults with disabilities who nonetheless very ably wield paintbrushes and pastels to create beautiful and diverse paintings. Bread and Roses places musicians there every month or so and  we took another turn playing to the artists and students on their lunch break earlier this week. There's a wide range of abilities at Creativity Explored:  invariably someone waves a corn dog in your face, passes gas at an inopportune moment or gets up and dances in a way not seen before. Yesterday, all three happened...and it was pure delight. Halfway through the set, we had 5 impromptu backup dancers including one gentleman who was doing something like a break dance. I was impressed! It's a wacky and wooly world, but there's so much good being done and hope being made in the face of it, epitomized by the work of both Bread & Roses and Creativity Explored. I’m always happy to support them!

Music Review as Poetry on Sonic Data

An interesting 'review' of Little Bird came through in the form of a poem culled from  song lyrics on the disc. It's a completely different interpretation of the material but I nonetheless found it pretty interesting. Check out the Sonic Dada post HERE

Interview with Indie Music Lives Here

Something Special

When I lived in Colorado, I learned that one of the most respected professors at CU, Patricia Limerick, a MacArthur fellow who heads up the Center for the American West in Boulder, was also the "University Fool." In her official capacity as fool — a title she proudly holds — she dresses up as a clown each April 1 to act the jester around town and campus, "bringing some levity" to an otherwise serious institution.
Limerick's combination of irreverence and excellence impressed me. While you won't find me in clown makeup today, April Fools' Day, I thought I'd nonetheless join in the spirit of foolishness (or foolhardiness) and share a demo of one of my newer (and quirkier) songs  'Something Special.' About my childhood fascination with the legend of Bigfoot, I wasn't sure this song was going to leave the house after I wrote it. Nonetheless, since I've added 'Something Special' to the set list, it's been finding its legs (err, feet). Plus I've found out a lot of folks are still very interested in Bigfoot! I hope you enjoy it.

Big Sur for Sounds in the Round

I love the ocean, I love the coast, and one of the best ever places to experience the Pacific Coast is in Big Sur. So I'm super delighted to be a  part of Treebones Resort Sounds in the Round Monday Music series next week. If you're up for a get-away, I recommend booking a yurt pronto. We play Monday, March 3, 2014 6:30-8:30pm.

Welcome Matt Wednesdays #2 with Deborah Crooks and Kwame Copeland

Amid a prolific 2013 which included collaborating with modern dance choreographer Christine Cali, touring throughout the US, signing a publishing deal with Wixen Publishing and releasing several original videos,  The Welcome Matt, aka San Francisco artist Matt Langlois, self-produced POP JUNK FLUFF and HYPE, a 10-song collection full of indie pop-rock gems. Kwame and I were privvy to learn one of the tunes from POP JUNK FLUFF and HYPE, the catchy "The Key of G,"  as a part of a laid-back recording of the Welcome Matt Wednesday video series. Can you tell The Welcome Matt knows his way around a hook? Find out more about The Welcome Matt at his site: & view the video here

HEARTBREAK HELL @ The Monkey House

Valentine's Day has always felt a bit like a setup, a lot of pressure whether one is in or out of a relationship.  So I was delighted when songwriter Ira Marlowe put together a night of sad songs by other local troubadours to commemorate this pseudo holiday now associated with romantic love. Plus it's a benefit for Bay Area suicide prevention efforts.
Come take a listen. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you may or may not eat too much chocolate...and you're always welcome to bring flowers:
