A New Year, Starring Hope

Art is the highest form of hope.” — Gerhard Richter

While I’m rarely satisfied with the amount of time in a day, and many aspects of 2018 were sobering personally and globally, I’m happy to have kept at creative work during the past year.
“Be Your Own Bird” fledged in February to mark my birthday; April saw the release of Bay Station's third full-length record Other Desert Cities; Kwame and I evolved our Love the Bay music and sailing project into two multi-day, sailing-boat-concert tours around the San Francisco Bay (and are expanding the concept in 2019*); and I released a fresh remix of one of my perennial tunes “Adding Water to the Ashes.”
I also was privileged to play music on mountains, porches, in backyards, rehab centers, yacht clubs, in living rooms, alongside old hangers as well as on traditional stages; finally got to Alaska (and fell in love with its beauty…and moose), wrote a bunch of new songs and chipped away at some long-term writing projects.
It took me many years to free up my voice and I’m so grateful to get to keep playing with words and music. And to meet and collaborate with so many kindred spirits along the way!
Thank YOU for reading, listening, and coming to shows. I'm excited for what's next.
Wishing you and yours peace, love and freedom of expression in the new year! Deborah
